Mega Home Center Co, a subsidiary of SET-listed Home Product Center Plc, aims to increase revenue by 50% this year as it opens four new stores and taps strong demand in border areas.

The company has set a sales target of 6.4 billion baht, up from last year's 4.4 billion, said Mega Home chief operating officer Supornsri Naktanasukanjn.

"The company achieved more than 50% sales growth in 2015 and will maintain the same target again this year," she said.

Seven hardware stores are currently in operation under the Mega Home brand. Of the total, two are in Bangkok and its vicinity, two are in industrial districts and the rest are in border areas.

"Our stores in Tak's Mae Sot district, Nong Khai and Sa Kaeo's Aranyaprathet district generated more than 20% of sales growth last year and are expected to see substantial growth again this year," Mrs Supornsri said.

She added political stability in the neighbouring countries has helped their economies to grow substantially, leading to growing demand in border areas.

"We see a lot of construction going on those border areas, with 60% of construction materials coming from Thailand," Mrs Supornsri said.

She said the government's policy to promote special economic zones in border areas and the advent of the Asean Economic Community also benefited the company.

Mrs Supornsri said the five existing stores also generated more than a 10% rise in sales, outpacing the 5% growth of the overall construction material market.

The company has earmarked 2 billion baht to build four new stores this year. The first one is located in Ayutthaya and is due to be officially opened later this month.

The second store will be located in Songkhla's Hat Yai district and is due to be opened in the second quarter of this year. Two other stores are set to be launched in the Northeast, due to open in the third and fourth quarters, she said.

Mrs Supornsri said the company is confident the new store in Hat Yai some 40 kilometres from the Malaysian border will generate high revenue from the heavy volume of economic activities in the area.

Mega Home aims to open four new stores each year, rising to 20 stores by 2018.
