Germany-based Pentahotels is entering the Thai market to manage a hotel in Bangkok's Phloenchit-Lumpini area for The Nest Property Co.

The move marks the first official step for Pentahotels in its expansion into Southeast Asia after opening a second property in Hong Kong this year.

Called Pentahotel Bangkok Phloenchit, the 157-room hotel is due to be finished by 2020.

"The announcement of Pentahotel Bangkok is an important milestone for our brand, marking our entry into the Thailand market and expansion into Southeast Asia," said Sonia Cheng, chief executive of Rosewood Hotel Group, Pentahotels' parent management company.

She said the group's hotels are tailored to meet design standards featuring the brand's hallmark design-led environment, including the signature Pentalounge, a new-

concept reception area that combines function with entertainment as it welcomes guests to relax and socialise around a stylish bar.

Located close to many large shopping malls, high-rise office towers, Lumpini Park and the skytrain, Pentahotel Bangkok promises convenience for business guests and leisure travellers.

Ms Cheng said the Pentahotels brand brings a new hotel experience to Thailand after success in Europe and elsewhere in Asia, adding the group chose Phloenchit-Lumpini for the area's international business appeal and vibrant local and expat scenes.

Meanwhile, Ausana Mahagitsiri, chief executive of The Nest Property Co, a subsidiary of PM Group, said Pentahotels has a proven track record and expertise in managing hotels that appeal to the next generation of travellers.

The company is partnering with Pentahotels to create a unique hotel experience in Bangkok.

JLL's Hotels & Hospitality Group acted as the exclusive adviser to PM Group in sourcing a hotel operator and successfully negotiating the terms of the agreement.

Andrew Langston, executive vice-president of JLL, said the Pentahotel Bangkok signing shows the continued confidence both the owner and operator have in the Bangkok and Thailand hotel market.
